Dartmouth Set to Host Canadian Baseball Championships
The teams are set, and the pools are drawn. It’s now just a matter of time until they get down to business and faceoff to determine the who is the best baseball team in the country.
The past two Champions are in the field, the Fort Saskatchewan Athletics (2009) and Burnaby Bulldogs (2008), along with the Red Deer Riggers, who defeated the Athletics for the Alberta League title last year. The host Dartmouth Moosehead Dry are perrenial contenders and have won before. And the other local team from Halifax has put together a strong team as well.
This is only part of the strong field that will compete for the National Championship in Dartmouth this weekend.
The tournament kicks off next Thursday morning (Aug. 26) with one of the local favourites, the Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians, taking on the team from New Brunswick, the Fredericton Peterbilt/DQ Royals at the Halifax Mainland Commons.
The host Dartmouth Moosehead Dry will play their first game against the Windsor Stars later that evening following the championship’s opening ceremonies at 7:30 pm at Beazely Field in Dartmouth. The Championship game is schedule for Sunday evening at 8:00 pm in Dartmouth.
The Team have been divided into two pools as follows:
- Pool A
- Pool B
The night before the Championship opens, representatives from each team will take part in a Home Run Derby in support of breast cancer research. Admission to the Home Run Derby is free but donations are encouraged.
