The Halifax Pelham Canadians stole Game 1 of the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League final thanks to Paul Davie’s alert baserunning.

Davie stole home on Dartmouth reliever Jeff Reeves in the top of the ninth inning for the deciding run as the Canadians came away with a 5-4 victory over the host Moosehead Dry in the opener of the best-of-seven championship Thursday night at Beazley Field.

Game 2 is Saturday at Halifax. The series returns to Dartmouth for Game 3 on Sunday.

The Canadians, behind starting pitcher Barrett Bellefontaine, built a 4-1 advantage through six innings. But the Dry drew even with a three runs in the bottom half of the seventh.

Bellefontaine, Halifax’s ace lefthander, left the game in the seventh with a possible arm injury. His status for the remainder of the series is unknown.

Shawn Peverill had a double and a single for Halifax, while Adam Lucas, Josh Pelham and Shawn Walsh each had two singles.

Colin Johnson and Greg West had homers for the Dry.
