Frost Heaves Fold: Draft Upcoming
Halifax Rainmen divisional rival, the Vermont Frost Heaves, have ceased operations from the Premier Basketball League.
Apparently, expenses were outpacing the revenues that the team could generate. Never a recipe for success.
“We’ve worked hard to bring in revenue from a variety of sources, but have not been able to match expenses with revenue,” stated Don Mandelkorn, general manager. “This decision was not made lightly and was done so only after much effort to try to bring things in balance.”
The Frost Heave players will now be eligible for a dispersal draft amongst the remaining PBL teams, apparently to be held sometime Thursday. There are a few attractive pieces that will be taking their talents to new locales.
6’8″ forward Mike Williams is the current league leader with 20.86 point per game and his 10.29 boards per game is second only to the Rainmen’s own Eric “Air Canada” Crookshank (11.50), but he has played three more games.
Point guard Duwuan Rice leads the league with 7.57 assists and 3 steals per game. This is in additon to averaging 15.86 points per game
Another 6’8″ power forward, Rob Demasi has been chipping in all over the court. He’s shooting a very respectable 51.9 percent from the field while averaging 10 points, 8 rebounds and 0.86 blocks per game
