Sooners’ Doucette Named NSSBL Player of the Week

Paul Doucette pitcher and firstbaseman for the Sydney Sooners of the Nova Scotia Senior baseball LeaguePaul Doucette of the Sydney Sooners has been chosen as the Cleve’s Source for Sports Player of the Week in the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League. The veteran pitcher/first baseman played a huge role in all three games won this past weekend by his Sooners over the Kentville Wildcats.

Doucette took to the mound in the first game of the series and threw a complete game, scattering 9 hits over the nine innings. In the second game, Doucette stroked a single in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring Beau Chiasson with the running run in a 2-1 victory. Then in the third game, with the score tied at one in the 11th, Doucette hit a ground ball with the bases loaded, allowing teammate Cory Christie to beat the throw to the plate. The Sooners escaped with another 2-1 win.

Other players considered for the award were teammates Cory Christie and Kenny Long of the Sooners, Wildcats’ Trevor Wamback, and the Dry’s Colin Johnson.
