Halifax Mooseheads General Manager Cam Russell announced Monday afternoon that defenceman Jonathan Parisien had been released. This brings the Mooseheads in line with the QMJHL overage limit of three per roster. Mooseheads Alex Grenier, Cameron Critchlow and Travis Randell are the team’s current 20 year olds.

Parisien was battling with Randell for the final spot. Parisien’s job was made that much harder as the battle for defensive spots was tight thanks to the strong performances from Josh Desmond and Mitchell Shewfelt.

Add to that, Randell has been a key part of a veteran line with Cameron Critchlow and Brad Cuzner that is all kinds of unpleasant to face on the ice. Despite the recent return of a number of forwards from NHL camps, the “CCR” line is likely to stick together and play a regular third/fourth line shift. The three bring a level of experience and grit not found in the rest of the lineup.

The Herd’s next game is this Friday, September 30th when they travel to Sydney to take on their Provincial rivals, the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at 7pm.
