Rainmen Sign Hometown Hero Christian “T-Bear” Upshaw
“I finally get to live a dream I’ve been dreaming for a long time,” said Upshaw. “To play professionally in my home town is beyond what I’ve ever imagined. It means so much to me to be able to play at this level in front of the people who have been there for me from the beginning, and will hopefully be there until the end. I hope to make Halifax proud this season.”
A favourite in the local basketball community, Upshaw spent three years as a standout player for Saint Patrick’s High School where he won three provincial championships. He also spent five years on Saint Francis Xavier University’s roster where he earned back-to-back AUS MVPs in 2008/09 and 2009/10.
“Christian is a player that I’ve been watching since his first year at StFx,” said Halifax Rainmen President & CEO, Andre Levingston. “He has worked extremely hard throughout our training camp and has truly earned his position on our roster. I’m extremely confident that he will be seeing a fair amount of floor time this season, and that within a few years he will develop into one of the top guards in our league.”
The Halifax Rainmen will play their pre-season Rogers Slam Dunk Fan Night game on Sunday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m. Free tickets for this game are still available at Ticket Atlantic locations and can be redeemed while quantities last.
